We should protect the vulnerable groups in society the Prime Minister said during a meeting with bankers.
Representatives of the Hellenic Bank Association have held talks with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras at 10:00 am Wednesday at the Prime Mminister's office.
“What is important right now is for the system to function again normally but at the same time to ensure that there will be no further moves which will further affect the vulnerable groups in society,” the Prime Minister said during the meeting.
"Capital controls and restrictions on withdrawals will remain in place but we are entering a new stage which we all hope will be one of normality," said Louca Katseli, head of the Greek bank association.
Primary residence auctions, the transposition of the European Union’s Bank Recovery and Resolution Directive into national law and the overhaul of Code of Civil Procedure were on the table.
As Kathimerini reports: “The government on Tuesday announced the de facto protection of the main residence from foreclosure until the end of 2015, while also promising decisive measures to deal with the issue of nonperforming loans before January 1.
A few hours after this announcement, the Hellenic Bank Association issued a statement further confirming that all banks operating in Greece will continue to offer protection to primary residences up to the end of the year based on the previous legal framework, dating from 2013.”
