EC president argues that “Greece is wrong to feel humiliated”
"The worst was avoided" thanks to the euro summit agreement for a Greek bailout on 13 July, European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker said in an interview with major Belgian daily Le Soir.
"It is fear that made the deal possible," he noted, regretting "a rupture of solidarity" in Europe.
Furthermore he claimed that “Greece is wrong to feel humiliated” since the European Commission did everything possible in order to normalize the situation.
The European Commission chief also expressed his concern over the future of Europe, as major controversial issues – such as migration – have highlighted how difficult maintaining solidarity can be.
Juncker went on to state that “Europeans do not like Europe” and estimated that the European integration has become an “elite project”, which in turn explains the gap between public opinion and European action.
