Censure Motion against Zoe Konstantopoulou

NEWSROOM IEFIMERIDA.GR

Earlier today Potami leader Stavros Theodorakis said he is ready to give notice of a motion seeking to censure Speaker of the House of Parliament Zoe Konstantopoulou for “undermining the role of the Prime Minister” and the “misuse and abuse of her authority as Speaker.”

“Mrs. Konstantipoulou has her own issues to deal with” Theodorakis said in an interview with SKAI television. “I witnessed Mr. Tsipras yelling at her. Her role is not to replace the Prime Minister but to ensure the orderly flow of parliamentary sessions” he said. “I have urged to the Prime Minister that Mrs. Konstantopoulou's nomination as Speaker was a bad idea”

Konstanopoulou has been accused for bringing parliamentary sessions and comitees into disrepute by many opposition as well as government MPs. On Wednesday May 20, Konstantopoulou stormed out of her office and confronted a police commander who was blocking demonstrators from approaching the Parliament; live on TV. After the event occurred Ministers and MPs were unable to hide their anger and their frustration by the behavior and conduct of the Parliament's Speaker. Alexis Tsipras, Greece's PM, has rebuked Mrs. Konstantipoulou for her behavior which , according to the Greek PM, rises impediments to the government's efforts.
