Deputy Culture Minister Nikos Xydakis told that Greece is seeking a new strategy to bring back the sculptures. In an interview with Mega he said: “The way to repatriate sculptures should be thought politics or diplomacy”.
According to Mr. Xydakis it would be unlikely for Greece to win the marbles back in court thus the current government will continue the policy of previous Greek governments and avoid making a narrow legal claim. Xydakis also added that “the marbles issue has gained good publicity” .
According to Mr. Xydakis the UK based legal team Doughty Street Chambers has not sent the Greek government a legal memo but rather provides information regarding the issue though legal briefings.
