Police in Volos have arrested a 52-year-old woman accused of committing serious crimes against her 12-year-old daughter, in a case that has shocked the local community.
The woman was taken into custody on Monday by officers from the Volos Crimes Investigation and Detection Unit.
She faces felony charges after allegedly recording her underage daughter while she was naked and selling the material online.
According to local reports, the accused appeared before the public prosecutor and was charged with multiple felonies: production, distribution, offering, possession, and procurement of child pornography material involving a minor under the age of 12 and under 15, using information systems; sexual acts with a minor under the age of 12; and repeated sexual acts between blood relatives of direct descent.
She was referred to the examining magistrate for a statement, but after reporting she did not have a lawyer, the court assigned one and postponed her hearing until Thursday.
She will remain in custody until then.
Investigators say the mother is alleged to have photographed and filmed her daughter while the child was sleeping in 2024, then sold the material to a man from Lamia who presented himself as a modeling agent on social media.
That man has already been arrested and is in custody facing child pornography charges.
Police searched the woman’s home and confiscated electronic storage devices containing images and videos, which will be examined by forensic experts.
Authorities have removed the minor, now 13, from her home, and she is being cared for in a children’s shelter in Volos.
The case, which is under judicial investigation, underscores growing concerns about child exploitation and the dangers posed by online offenders.
Authorities are urging communities and families to report suspicious activity and support law enforcement efforts to protect vulnerable children across the country.
