A 28-year-old man has been arrested for fatally stabbing a 47-year-old woman outside her home in the northern Athens suburb of Halandri, an attack he allegedly told police was triggered by a minor dispute.
The victim was stabbed approximately 15 times around 11:30 a.m., according to media reports.
A neighbor who witnessed the confrontation heard the woman’s screams and called emergency services. Police arrived swiftly and arrested the suspect at the scene, confiscating two knives.
Authorities said the suspect and victim were acquaintances who had met at a community soup kitchen and were both facing financial difficulties.
The suspect reportedly told police he had waited for the woman at her apartment building to "resolve our issues" and attacked her after she shouted at him.
Police confirmed that the suspect had been previously warned in March following a complaint from the victim over non-criminal disputes.
