Greek firefighters have brought two wildfires under control in Politika, Evia, and Akontio, Boeotia, part of a broader wave of 35 wildland fires reported across the country over the past 24 hours, authorities said.
The fire in Politika broke out in farm and forest land near scattered homes, according to the fire service.
Crews deployed 35 firefighters, including two ground units from the 20th Special Wildfire Response Unit (EMODE), eight fire vehicles, four aircraft and one helicopter, with additional support from municipal water tankers and heavy equipment.
A second fire broke out roughly 45 minutes later, around 5:30 p.m., in agricultural and forest land in Akontio, Boeotia.
The fire service said this blaze developed away from homes or infrastructure.
Thirty firefighters, including a ground unit from the 7th Special Wildfire Response Unit, along with seven vehicles, one aircraft and one helicopter, were deployed to contain it.
Of the 35 wildfires reported nationwide over the past day, 27 were contained in their early stages, while firefighting crews continue battling eight active blazes, according to the fire service.
Local investigative offices and units from the Fire Investigation Directorate for Arson-Related Crimes (DAEE) are investigating the causes of the fires.
Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and, in the event of a fire, to strictly follow instructions from local authorities to ensure their safety.
