The deepening of cooperation between Greece, Bulgaria and Türkiye for the management of migratory flows, the enhancement of border security and the promotion of returns to the countries of origin, was the focus of discussions at the second trilateral meeting held in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Migration and Asylum Makis Voridis, the Bulgarian Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov and the Turkish Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya.
Voridis stressed that "there is a 30% decrease in arrivals at our land borders compared to 2024, while the decrease in flows to the Aegean islands reaches 38%. The cooperation of the Coast Guard and the Hellenic Police with the corresponding services of Türkiye is yielding visible results and sends a clear message to the smugglers: border control belongs to the states again". On the returns, Voridis pointed out that “without a return policy, there can be no effective immigration policy”.
