Panos Routsis, the father of a victim of the 2023 Tempi rail disaster, has ended a 23-day hunger strike after a prosecutor agreed to his demands for further forensic testing on his son's remains.
Mr. Routsis, whose 22-year-old son, Denny, was one of 57 people killed in the crash, had been camped outside the Greek Parliament since Sept. 15. His protest drew national attention and solidarity from the public.
On Tuesday, the Larissa prosecutor’s office announced it had accepted his request for new toxicological and biochemical examinations.
The office also reopened a case file to investigate potential misconduct by the original forensic doctors.
Standing beside his wife and former parliamentary speaker Zoe Konstantopoulou, Mr. Routsis announced the end of his strike to applause from supporters.
"I want to thank everyone who stood by me for 23 days," he said. "Our fight will continue together."
