The US government is highly likely to give financial support to projects of Greek and regional interest for the supply of Southeastern Europe with American natural gas, US Secretary for Energy Chris Wright indicated on Friday, in a press conference at the end of the 6th Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation (P-TEC) Summit, which was held in Athens on Thursday and Friday.

"The United States strive to invest abroad in long-term infrastructure that are beneficial for the country where the investment is carried out and for cooperation with the United States, Wright said. He pointed out that Greece is already an important actor in the transfer of LNG throughout the world, as Greek shipowners own roughly 20 pct of the global shipping fleet and more than a third of LNG carriers. "I believe you will see the administration's support in financing some of these projects," he added.

United States Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum spoke about the deals signed on Friday, speaking of a "historic moment". "Peace is achieved when we stop the Russian war machine and its energy revenues. Prosperity is achieved when we have affordable and reliable energy sources. With the leadership of Greece and the countries that were here and participated in the signature, we see that this was not simply words but real actions."

He noted that the true threat to the western world was not a theoretical increase in temperature by one degree in 2100 but "nuclear weapons and the loss of the AI arms race against China, adding: The United States are assuming a leadership role in this and we can beat this arms race only through an energy alliance."

Wright also noted that the impact of AI will pervade all of society, with no sector or job remaining unaffected, as this was the first time that humanity was in a position to convert electricity into intelligence. He predicted that demand for AI will be high, putting pressure on electricity demand, and that the 'free world' must "get into the game", in the same way as China had..

Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou, on his part, said: "We are working together to bring peace and stability, not only in the sector of energy - energy is a commodity but it also transforms the region. I consider the Vertical Corridor or the prosperity corridor: not just electric energy and pipelines but also bridges, roads, railroads will create prosperity and stability for the citizens in the long term."
