Greece experienced summer-like conditions on Sunday, May 4, with temperatures climbing above 32°C in parts of the country, drawing many to the coast to enjoy the unseasonable warmth.
According to data from the National Observatory of Athens, the highest temperature was recorded in the central city of Karditsa.
A total of 301 weather stations reported temperatures exceeding 25°C, marking the warmest average maximum temperature in the last 10 days.
The heatwave is expected to continue in the coming days, although increasing cloud cover and potential African dust may reduce air quality, particularly in the southern regions.
Sporadic showers are forecast, mainly in the Ionian Sea and western mainland, with localized rain also possible over mountainous areas in Crete and other inland regions by midday.
The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) predicts mostly clear skies by Monday evening, despite a chance of scattered rainfall earlier in the day.
Winds will blow from the west in southern Greece at 4 to 6 Beaufort and from the south elsewhere at 3 to 5 Beaufort.
Temperatures are expected to dip slightly in the west, central, and northern parts of the country but rise in the Aegean.
Daytime highs are forecast to reach 26–28°C on the mainland and 24–25°C in the northwest and on the islands.
