Two people have been killed and another critically injured in a fiery, head-on collision between a passenger car and a pickup truck on the Olympia Odos highway near Patras.
The driver of the passenger car, a 70-year-old woman, was killed after her vehicle burst into flames.
A man in the pickup truck also died from his injuries, while a second passenger from the truck is in critical condition at a local hospital.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, with authorities looking into conflicting eyewitness reports. One theory is that the pickup truck was traveling the wrong way on the highway, while another suggests it lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene, with bystanders attempting to fight the blaze with fire extinguishers as the burning vehicle's battery and gas tank exploded.
Traffic on the Patras-bound side of the highway was shut down for hours.
