Two American tourists were rescued by the Greek Coast Guard and a private boat after they were swept by strong currents and became trapped on rocks off the coast of Crete, officials have said.
The incident occurred off the coast of Gerani in the Rethymno region.
The two tourists, a 28-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man, reportedly entered the water despite strong winds and were quickly caught in a powerful current.
The Rethymno Coast Guard was immediately alerted.
The woman was helped to safety by another swimmer, while the man was picked up from the rocks by a passenger boat with assistance from a Coast Guard vessel.
Both were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries and are expected to make a full recovery. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of swimming in rough seas.
