Newly released video footage capturing a broad-daylight shootout in the suburb of Nea Makri has provided a chilling look at what Greek authorities describe as an escalating turf war between rival Turkish criminal syndicates.

The footage, captured on March 3 along the busy Marathon Avenue, shows gunmen opening fire on a vehicle outside a supermarket as bystanders scrambled for cover.

The country’s Organized Crime Unit has since arrested three Turkish nationals in connection with the attack.

Those detained include the suspected getaway driver and two alleged gunmen, who now face charges of attempted murder, weapons violations, and illegal entry into the country.

Investigators have linked the suspects to the notorious "Daltons" gang, a violent Turkish network with a growing footprint across Europe.

The intended targets are believed to be members of the rival "Umit Yalcin" gang. According to police, a fourth suspect remains at large and is believed to be hiding in northern Greece.

"This level of public audacity shows a total disregard for civilian life," a senior police official said. The investigation has been hampered by the fact that one of the two intended targets has refused to cooperate with authorities, reportedly due to his own lack of legal residency papers.

The incident has drawn comparisons to the 2023 "Loutsa Massacre," where six members of a Turkish gang were executed in a similar seaside suburb.

Public Order Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis has ordered a specialized task force to monitor foreign criminal elements, vowing that Greece will not become a "battleground for exported vendettas."
