Three years of diplomatic rapprochement have made a $10 billion bilateral trade target achievable, according to Turkish Ambassador to Greece Çağatay Erciyes, describing the Posidonia 2026 shipping exhibition as an opportunity to advance commercial shipping, port management, logistics and shipbuilding partnerships between the two countries.
Speaking at a reception hosted by the Turkish Embassy in Athens on the sidelines of Posidonia, Mr. Erciyes attributed the improved climate to the shared political commitment of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, most recently expressed at the High-Level Cooperation Council meeting in Ankara.
He said both sides had demonstrated that economic cooperation was achievable in parallel with unresolved territorial disputes.
The ambassador's remarks underscore the double track of the current relationship: even as Athens has been warning Ankara over its "Blue Homeland" maritime legislation and demanding explanations over the Lefkada drone incident, both governments have maintained active channels for commercial and diplomatic engagement.
Mr. Erciyes identified maritime industry as the primary driver of economic integration between the two Aegean neighbors.
