Former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is expected to resign his seat in Parliament in mid-October as he prepares to launch a new centrist political party, according to sources close to the former Syriza leader.

The move will mark a definitive break with the leftist Syriza party, which Mr. Tsipras led for 15 years.
He plans to launch the as-yet-unnamed new party in the spring of 2026, aiming to appeal to center and center-left voters.
The ground game for the new political movement will begin this winter with the publication of Mr. Tsipras's nearly 700-page memoir, which chronicles his turbulent years in power during Greece's debt crisis.
He is expected to tour the country for the book's launch to reconnect with voters.
Sources said Mr. Tsipras has ruled out including some of his hard-left former Syriza allies in the new party.
In a surprising long-term scenario, he reportedly envisions his new party performing well enough to prevent the ruling New Democracy party from gaining an outright majority in the next election, which could force them into a coalition and potentially see former conservative prime minister Kostas Karamanlis return to power.
