A third wave of bad weather this week will reach Greece on Friday, bringing cold, thunderstorms and snow on higher ground before easing on Sunday, meteorologists said.
Thursday's brief improvement is temporary, meteorologist Nikos Kanteres told iefimerida.
Friday starts calmer and warmer in most areas, but from midday a new system from the north will bring rain, storms and local snow in the mountains of central and northern Greece, spreading across the country on Saturday.
Cold air from the north will push temperatures down again.
Meteorologist Klearchos Marousakis said the heaviest rain and storms will hit eastern, northeastern and southern areas.
Lingering northerly winds will ease by early afternoon. Rain returns to Attica from Friday afternoon through midday Saturday.
The system moves away gradually on Sunday.
Mr. Kanteres said no significant organized weather is in sight for Monday through Wednesday, though nights will stay chilly, especially in central and northern Greece.
The cold snap follows a very wet week.
Flash floods hit the island of Skiathos on Wednesday, and storms battered Crete and other areas in recent days.
Authorities urge residents in affected areas to avoid crossing streams and to secure loose objects.
