Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos, addressing the European Union Competitiveness Council in Brussels, stressed the need for a fairer and more balanced European development policy that would effectively strengthen the competitiveness of all Member States.
Theodorikakos stressed that, in a particularly difficult and constantly changing geostrategic environment, the common goal of all is the prosperity of European citizens, through the strengthening of the productivity and competitiveness of national economies and the European economy as a whole, as well as the further strengthening of the single market.
Theodorikakos also highlighted key issues such as the lag in industry and manufacturing, the particularly high cost of energy, the inability of many small and medium-sized enterprises to adapt effectively to the digital transition, and the high cost of living, which requires new European initiatives. Referring to the European Competitiveness Fund, he stressed the need for a fair distribution of resources with geographical balance.
