A massive police manhunt was underway across central Crete for three siblings implicated in a deadly weekend vendetta, as funerals were scheduled for both victims of the shooting.
Authorities are searching for the three siblings, aged 19, 25, and 29, from the Fragkiadakis family. Legal representatives are reportedly negotiating their peaceful surrender, which could take place immediately following the funeral for their 57-year-old relative, who was also killed in the clash.
The village of Vorizia remains tense as armed police guard the homes of the two feuding families to prevent any retaliation. The second victim, 39-year-old Fanouris Kargakis, is also scheduled to be buried Tuesday afternoon in Chania.
Police have intensified their search for the fugitives across the Psiloritis region, raiding several homes.
"Arrest warrants for the three siblings are expected to be issued" if they do not surrender, said police spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglidou.
In addition to the three at large, two other men, aged 25 and 30, are hospitalized under guard and face homicide charges related to the incident.
Kostas Fragkiadakis, the brother of the 57-year-old victim, appealed for an end to the violence. "We have been threatened with executions, grenade attacks, and more," Mr. Fragkiadakis told MEGA television.
"This tragedy must end here."
