Stefanos Kasselakis, the president of the SYRIZA party, embarked on a significant visit to the Holy Metropolis of Maroneia and Komotini, as well as the Muftiate of Komotini. During these engagements, Kasselakis engaged with key religious leaders, fostering dialogue and emphasising the importance of coexistence between Christians and Muslims in the region.
Mr. Kasselakis met with the Metropolitan of Maroneia and Komotini, Mr. Panteleimon, and the acting mufti of Komotini, Tzihat Halil.
He said the meetings provided an opportunity to gain insight into the work carried out by both Greek Orthodox and Muslims communities in the region.
The leftist leader emphasised the need for continued dialogue and mutual respect among religious groups, underscoring Syriza’s commitment to fostering interfaith harmony and regional stability through inclusive policies.
He expressed support for enhancing equality, citizenship, and social cohesion in the region through democratic reforms.
Mr. Kasselakis also discussed his comprehensive plan for economic development in Thrace. He highlighted the significance of the European Union’s role in addressing regional challenges.
