The U.S. State Department has firmly denied reports circulating in the Greek press that there are complications or delays in Kimberly Guilfoyle’s appointment as the next American ambassador to Greece.
A spokesperson for the department described the reports as inaccurate, emphasizing that the State Department is moving forward with Guilfoyle’s nomination and looks forward to her advancing the “America First” agenda in Athens.
Speculation about Guilfoyle’s appointment intensified after months of uncertainty and a five-month vacancy at the U.S. Embassy in Athens.
Despite the rumors, the State Department recently issued an official “Certificate of Competency” for Guilfoyle, a procedural step that precedes a Senate confirmation hearing.
The Greek Foreign Ministry has also stated it has not received any notice of a change in the nomination and continues to await the completion of the U.S. confirmation process.
Guilfoyle, a former television host and senior advisor to President Donald Trump, was nominated for the post last December.
She has expressed enthusiasm for the role and has been preparing for her diplomatic duties, including completing ambassadorial training and engaging with the Greek-American community.
Her confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee is expected in the coming weeks.
Until her appointment is finalized, the embassy in Athens remains under the leadership of a Chargé d’affaires.
