A severe weather system is moving eastward across Greece, with the most intense storms now forecast to hit Central and Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and the islands of the Aegean Sea through Friday, the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) has warned.
An updated emergency bulletin issued late Thursday indicates that the regions of Thessaloniki, Halkidiki, and Serres are at risk for dangerous conditions until early Friday morning.
The storm system is then expected to move over Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and the islands of the Eastern Aegean until midday Friday.
By Friday afternoon, the most severe weather will shift to the Dodecanese islands, particularly the area around Kastellorizo."Attention will focus over the coming hours until Friday morning on Central Macedonia," said former EMY Director Thodoris Kolydas.
Authorities are advising residents in all affected areas to remain vigilant and follow safety instructions.
