Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis has met with a U.S. congressional delegation led by Republican Sen. Rick Scott of Florida, discussing the Greece-U.S. strategic partnership in the wake of Secretary of State Marco Rubio's visit, the Foreign Ministry said.
The two sides also exchanged views on the Middle East, Ukraine and the Eastern Mediterranean, and noted the important role of the Greek diaspora in strengthening ties, the ministry said on X. Joshua Huck, who now leads the U.S. Embassy after Kimberly Guilfoyle's removal, was expected to take part.
The visit matters for two reasons. Mr. Scott has voiced strong opposition to readmitting Turkey to the F-35 program, a sore point for Athens. And Florida is the partner state in the National Guard program Greece joined during Mr. Rubio's visit.
Mr. Scott also met Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou, who said Greece-U.S. relations are at a historic high. They discussed the Vertical Corridor, the gas route meant to carry U.S. liquefied natural gas north through Greece, and American companies' work in Greek hydrocarbons.
The delegation's trip follows Mr. Rubio's Oct. 7 visit, which brought $4 billion in announced U.S. arms sales.
