Runways at 8 island airports will shut down on a rolling basis for reconfiguration and reconstruction from November 2025 to March 2026, Fraport Greece said on Monday, in the fourth stage of reconfiguration and reconstruction of 14 regional Greek airports.
The runways will be shut down according to the following schedules:
- Cephalonia (EFL), shutting down November 17-December 01, 2025
- Corfu (CFU), January 12-January 26, 2026
- Zakynthos (ZTH), February 02-February 16, 2026
- Mykonos (JMK), shutting down for 48 hours every Tuesday 00:01 to Wednesday 23:59, from November 18, 2025 to March 18, 2026 (except on December 23, 24, 31 and January 6, 7)

- Rhodes (RHO), 24 hours every Tuesday 18:01 to Wednesday 17:59, from November 18, 2025 to March 24, 2026 (except on December 23, 24, 31 and January 6, 7)
- Samos (SMI), 24 hours every Wednesday 00:01-23:59, from November 19, 2025 to December 17, 2025 (except on December 23, 24, 31)

(Please note all specific times noted above refer to local times.)
During the above periods, emergency flights (medical evacuations, firefighting, humanitarian, and state-related flights) will continue to be served, by helicopters. All other airport services will function as usual.
In a relevant statement, Fraport Greece said that "the interruption of runway operation is necessary because of the size and complexity of the works, while the scheduling of the works has been arranged in such a way as to limit to the degree possible the time runway operations are suspended."
The works are part of the concession agreement and will further boost the runways' already high-level safety features, it added, in the context of funding by the Recovery and Resiliency Fund.
