One of Athens’ most enchanting summer cinemas is making a comeback, as the rooftop pool of the Hotel Grande Bretagne transforms once again into an open-air movie theater with sweeping views of Mount Lycabettus.
Starting Thursday, June 5, the Pool Your Cinema experience on the hotel’s seventh floor will offer open-air screenings every Thursday through Saturday. The series features a mix of classic films and recent blockbusters beneath the Athenian sky.
This year’s season opens with "Ticket to Paradise," a romantic comedy starring Julia Roberts and George Clooney. Other highlights include the action-packed "The Fall Guy" with Ryan Gosling, the award-winning Italian drama "There’s Still Tomorrow," set in post-war Rome, and "Kinds of Kindness," the latest provocative film from acclaimed Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos.
In addition to the cinematic experience, the venue offers a curated menu designed by Executive Chef Asterios Koustoudis. Moviegoers can enjoy gourmet snacks such as handmade nachos, freshly popped popcorn, Black Angus cheeseburgers, shrimp bites, and artisanal ice cream — all served poolside with wine or beer.
The rooftop cinema adds a luxurious twist to Athens’ summer movie tradition, blending film, fine food, and skyline views into a memorable evening.
