Robberies in the Fthiotida region of Central Greece fell by 50% in the first half of 2025, part of a significant drop in overall crime rates, the country's citizen protection minister announced during a visit to the area on Wednesday.
Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrisochoidis, presented official data showing a sharp decline in key offenses compared to the same period last year.
Thefts and burglaries were down by over 41%, and vehicle thefts decreased by nearly 30%.
“Our data show a notable decrease in offenses that directly affect people’s lives,” Mr. Chrisochoidis said.
During his visit to Lamia, the minister also pledged to strengthen police operations in the city.
"Everyone must understand that we live in a democratic state governed by the law — there are no lawless areas."
He also announced plans to open a new Police Academy in nearby Amfikleia, possibly next year.
The minister was accompanied by several high-ranking police officials, including Lieutenant General. Panagiotis Poupouzas.
