An employees' association on the Greek island of Rhodes has called for a protest to block an Israeli cruise ship, a move that directly challenges a recent government warning that such actions are illegal and will lead to arrests.
The planned protest follows a similar incident a few days ago on the island of Syros, where demonstrators successfully prevented the same cruise ship, the Crown Iris, from docking.
That blockade drew a sharp response from the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, who warned that anyone attempting to block the lawful entry of a foreign citizen would face prosecution under Greece's anti-racism law.
The Rhodes Municipal Employees Association said its protest is against the "murderous policies of the far-right Netanyahu government."
Following the Syros incident, which was condemned by local tourism officials like Deputy Mayor Mr. Giannis Voutsinos, Israel issued a travel advisory urging its citizens to take "heightened precautionary measures" in Greece.
