A 38-year-old pregnant woman is in the hospital fighting to save her vision after her partner allegedly stabbed her with a fork in a brutal domestic violence attack, authorities said.
The woman, who is three months pregnant, was rushed to Attikon Hospital with severe injuries to her face, arms, and abdomen.
Doctors performed emergency surgery on her right eye. The unborn child was not harmed, and the woman remains hospitalized under police guard.
The suspect, a 43-year-old man, was arrested after hiding in the basement of a relative's apartment building.
Authorities said he was intoxicated at the time of the attack.
Police confirmed the suspect has a long criminal record, with 12 arrests over the last 13 years for robbery, extortion, and assault.
An acquaintance said he was known to be "wild when he drank," and his first wife reportedly fled to her native Georgia with their child to escape his abuse.
The suspect is scheduled to appear before a prosecutor on Monday to face charges of serious bodily harm and domestic violence.
