SYRIZA, the party that governed Greece from 2015 to 2019, has collapsed to 2.3 percent in a new Metron Analysis poll for Mega TV — well below the 3 percent threshold required to enter parliament — as former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras's breakaway ELAS party takes second place nationally with 15.2 percent in vote estimation, completing one of the fastest party implosions in modern Greek political history.
New Democracy leads with a 13.2-point margin, holding its dominant position under Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. PASOK is third at 11.2 percent but facing severe internal pressure: party leader Nikos Androulakis carries a 79 percent negative personal rating, and 80 percent of respondents view the party's performance as official opposition negatively.
The most striking personal finding is the rise of Maria Karystianou, the Tempe train disaster activist whose "Hope for Democracy" party sits fourth at 10.4 percent. Mrs. Karystianou has the highest favourability rating of any political figure in the poll at 39 percent — ahead of Course of Freedom leader Zoe Konstantopoulou at 34 percent and Mr. Mitsotakis at 32 percent.
On suitability for prime minister, Mr. Mitsotakis leads at 28 percent, followed by Mr. Tsipras at 14 percent and Mr. Androulakis and Mrs. Karystianou tied at 6 percent each — despite the latter's superior favourability numbers.
The poll also captures deep public unease: 69 percent of Greeks believe the country is heading in the wrong direction and 61 percent want political change, yet Mr. Mitsotakis remains the dominant choice for premier.
Inflation and high prices are cited as the primary concern by 47 percent of respondents.
