Greece's governing New Democracy holds a 14.6-point lead in the greater Athens region of Attica, according to a new poll, with former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras' new party, ELAS, in second place ahead of national elections expected next spring.
The Opinion Poll survey for Action 24 television estimated New Democracy's support at 31.5%, compared with 16.9% for ELAS. The center-left PASOK trailed in third with 10.2%, followed by the Communist Party at 7.9%.
Five more parties would clear the 3% threshold to enter parliament. They include the left-wing Course of Freedom at 5.9%, the nationalist Greek Solution at 5% and Hope for Democracy at 4.7%.
Attica, home to about a third of Greece's voters, is a key battleground.
Nearly 65% of respondents expect New Democracy to win.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis led as the most suitable leader at 30%, ahead of "none" at 21.4% and Mr. Tsipras at 16.6%. Asked which opposition figure could best challenge Mr. Mitsotakis, 28.2% chose Mr. Tsipras and 12% chose PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis.
Respondents were narrowly split on whether the next government should be single-party or a coalition, 47.8% to 45.7%.
About 60% said Greece's international and defense standing had improved under the conservative government.
But the cost of living remains the top concern.
Three in four respondents said government relief measures are not enough. Housing costs and incomes followed as the main worries.
