Police were forced to fatally shoot a Rottweiler on Saturday to stop it from mauling its 76-year-old owner, an attack captured on harrowing security camera footage.
The video shows the dog viciously attacking the elderly man, lunging at him, knocking him to the ground, and biting him with full force.
The animal is seen dragging the victim across the pavement as he struggles to escape.
The assault continued until a police officer arrived and fired at the dog, ending the attack.
According to Greece's MEGA channel, the victim was the dog's owner and had kept the animal in an enclosed area. Despite this, the dog managed to overpower him.
Emergency services rushed the man to Kalamata Hospital, where he is being treated for bite wounds to his upper limbs.
He remains intubated and in stable condition but is under close observation. Doctors have scheduled CT scans of his chest and brain, with a potential transfer to an intensive care unit in Athens for possible surgery.
Authorities credited a woman who witnessed the attack and immediately called the emergency hotline.
Her quick call, combined with the rapid police response, was credited with saving the man’s life.
