Police bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion on a suspicious package found in central Athens early Thursday morning, which was later revealed to be a piggy bank.
The incident began just before 4 a.m. when the package was discovered on Stadiou Street.
Police immediately closed off several blocks in the busy commercial district as a precaution.
According to state broadcaster ERT, the bomb squad detonated the package and found it contained a piggy bank.
The area was declared safe, and the street reopened to traffic before 5:30 a.m.
No injuries were reported.
