Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT) on Monday afternoon to mark the launch of a new real-time subtitling service for news bulletins, aimed at ensuring accessibility for deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers.
The service will cover the 12:00, 18:00, and 21:00 news bulletins on ERT News. Viewers using the Ertflix platform will also have access to simultaneous sign language interpretation and the option of English subtitles.
The real-time, AI-assisted subtitling removes a barrier that citizens with hearing impairments have faced for years and adds to the existing regular sign language bulletins. Ertflix also has more than 1,750 hours of content subtitled in Greek and English, available on demand. The initiative is part of the national strategy for the rights of people with disabilities from 2024 to 2030 and aims to ensure equal access to information services, which is an inalienable right of all citizens.
