Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with Kythira Mayor Stratos Charchalakis on Tuesday at the Maximos Mansion, where they discussed measures to support the island following the wildfire that broke out a few days ago.
Early next week, a team will visit Kythira to inspect the areas affected by the fire, plan the necessary anti-erosion and flood prevention works, and explore the possibility of artificial reforestation with a variety of plants to ensure greater resilience of vegetation in the future.
To boost the local economy and tourism, they decided to launch a support program similar to those already in place in North Evia, Thessaly, and Evros. The new program is set to begin next year.
Interventions to restore and improve the island's infrastructure were also discussed. The Greek Premier pledged that the State would stand firmly by the island of Kythira.
