Main opposition PASOK-Movement for Change possesses the 30 signatures needed to demand a Parliamentary preliminary investigation into the actions of former transport minister Kostas Karamanlis with respect to the disastrous train accident in Tempi, PASOK-KINAL leader Nikos Androulakis revealed at the conclusion of his four-day visit to Heraklion, Crete on Monday.

Androulakis had attended a PASOK regional conference on the island held on Sunday.

"In the next few days we will be ready to take this initiative. We have 30 MPs, therefore we can submit a request for a preliminary investigation in the Hellenic Parliament," he said. Given that Karamanlis' subordinates are being prosecuted on criminal charges, he added, it was self-evident that PASOK will do the same for Karamanlis and all the political figures involved.

Androulakis wrapped up his visit to Heraklion by meeting local business owners in the city's industrial zone, who outlined the difficulties they are facing. Commenting on the party conference held on Sunday, he stressed that regional development was the only way forward in order to deal with the massive problems facing the Greek people, especially the major demographic problem that will be the main topic of discussion on September 3, when PASOK celebrates its 51st anniversary.
