Authorities conducted a new raid on the offices of OPEKEPE, the national organization for agricultural subsidies, seizing the complete file of 2025 applications as part of a widening fraud investigation.
The operation was carried out by the Economic Police and the Criminal Investigations Directorate. Officers will cross-check the 2025 applications against previous years to identify further illegal activity.
Digital files, hard drives, and folders were confiscated and transferred to forensic laboratories.
The raid follows an Oct. 13 audit by the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), which examined OPEKEPE’s payments from 2014 to 2025.
To date, 13 of the 37 people arrested in the case have been remanded in custody.
The suspects include a 38-year-old alleged ringleader from Giannitsa and a 36-year-old alleged deputy from Crete.
The European Public Prosecutor’s Office, working with Greek authorities, accuses the ring of using the names of deceased individuals to claim EU aid, as well as filing fraudulent livestock and land declarations.
The charges include forming a criminal organization, grant fraud, obtaining false certificates, and money laundering.
