New legislation taking effect Aug. 11 will eliminate certain ATM cash withdrawal fees and cap others at 1.50 euros as part of a government effort to protect consumers, the Ministry of National Economy and Finance announced.
Under the new rules, banks can no longer charge fees for cash withdrawals made at ATMs within their own network.
Withdrawals will also be free of charge in towns where only a single ATM operates, regardless of the provider.
For all other cash withdrawals from third-party ATMs, the fee will be capped at a maximum of 1.50 euros per transaction.
The amendment also eliminates fees for bill payments made through a bank’s digital channels, such as web or mobile banking.
The law is part of a broader push by authorities to enhance consumer rights and ensure fair and affordable banking services.
