With less than a month to the European elections, Greece’s ruling New Democracy party is outpacing the leftist main opposition Syriza party by 15.4 percentage points, according to a new opinion.
Conducted by MRB for Open TV, the pool shows New Democracy nearly reaching the 33 percent threshold set by its leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis for the previous European elections. Support for Syriza measured at 16 percent, while PASOK trailed two points behind at 14 percent.
The poll showed Greek Solution grabbing about 9.9 percent of the vote, with the New Left recorded a marked rise to 3.8 percent, the Voice of Reason at 2.8 percent and the newly formed Democrats party at 2.4 percent.
MRB’s findings suggest that New Democracy’s share could range from 30% to 35%, potentially surpassing its performance in the 2019 European elections. Syriza was forecast to rake in 14 and 18 percent, surpassing the 17 percent benchmark set by its leader Stefanos Kasselakis.
This race for second place however remains open.
