Greece’s governing New Democracy party has expanded its political dominance, climbing above 31% in latest voter estimates as the public offers overwhelming support for Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s assertive regional defense posture.

An MRB survey for Open TV shows the center-right party at 31.1%, commanding a massive 17.1-percentage-point lead over the socialist PASOK, which stands at 14%.

The surge comes as Mr. Mitsotakis maintains his position as the nation's most trusted leader, with a 24.6% suitability rating, far outpacing rivals in an increasingly fragmented opposition landscape.

Public approval is increasingly tied to the government’s response to heightened Middle East tensions. Seven in 10 respondents expressed support for the recent deployment of F-16 Vipers and frigates to Cyprus, as well as the strategic positioning of Patriot missile batteries on Greek islands.

However, voters remain wary of direct military escalation; 68.2% advocate for neutrality in the U.S.-Iran conflict, primarily due to fears over global energy costs.

"The electorate is prioritizing stability and credible defense as the regional crisis deepens," said Dimitris Mavros, CEO of MRB. While the government enjoys a "security dividend," it faces headwinds on domestic policy.

A slim 51.6% majority supports emergency profit-margin caps on essential goods, but nearly half of the country opposes the Prime Minister’s proposal to introduce small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) to the national energy grid.

The poll also highlights a crisis within the opposition. PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis has seen his favorability drop to 5.1% following a divisive internal purge, with 44.5% of voters viewing the expulsion of senior MP Odysseas Konstantinopoulos negatively.

As inflation and security dominate the 2026 political calendar, the survey suggests New Democracy remains the only party currently capable of forming a viable administration.
