Greece's ruling New Democracy party maintains a commanding lead of nearly 17 percentage points over its nearest rival, though its support has dipped slightly and a rising share of voters are gravitating toward unspecified alternatives.
According to a new Opinion Poll survey released this week, New Democracy would win 31.2 percent of the vote if elections were held now — down 1.5 points from March — while Pasok rose 1.2 points to 14.4 percent, still 16.8 points behind the governing conservatives.
Greek Solution placed third at 9.4 percent, followed by Course of Freedom at 8.2 percent, the Communist Party at 7.8 percent, and both Syriza and Voice of Reason at 4.3 percent.
A notable 12.6 percent of respondents — up sharply from 8.8 percent in March — said they would vote for some other unspecified party, a figure that points to significant latent demand for new political options outside the established landscape.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis remains the most popular party leader at 28.9 percent. Former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, who has announced plans to form a new party before the next election, placed second at 9.9 percent.
Pasok leader Nikos Androulakis came a distant third at 5.8 percent.
The poll tested appetite for two anticipated new entrants. Some 19.1 percent said they would very likely or quite likely vote for a Tsipras-led party, while 21.1 percent expressed similar interest in a party led by Maria Karystianou, the prominent advocate for victims of the 2023 Tempe train disaster who has also signaled plans to enter politics.
On snap elections, 39.3 percent opposed early voting against 28.4 percent in favor.
