Civil Protection and municipalities worked constantly as of Friday morning to clear snow and ice from roads at higher elevations in Epirus.
At elevations of over 600 meters, several villages in the Arta region and at Zagori, Konitsa, and Metsovo were blanketed in snow, which exceeded 30 centimeters. Temperatures were very low (below 0C, or 32F), and icy conditions prevailed in several regions.
Municipalities warned residents to be particularly careful, avoid unnecessary travel, and use snow chains on their vehicles.
Salt spreaders have been dispatched along Egnatia Odos traversing northern Greece, to prevent problems in traffic.
