Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has stressed the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine, expressing optimism that recent high-level talks have created a clear path toward a potential meeting between the presidents of Russia and Ukraine.
Mr. Mitsotakis made the remarks during a video conference with European Union leaders convened by European Council President Antonio Costa.
The discussion was held to review the findings from meetings on the Ukraine crisis that took place in Washington, D.C., over the weekend.
The Greek prime minister also voiced his satisfaction with the United States’ commitment to support security guarantees for Ukraine.
He reaffirmed Greece’s long-standing position on the inviolability of national borders, underscoring that only Ukraine has the sovereign right to make decisions concerning its territorial integrity.
The prime minister also participated in a separate summit of European People’s Party leaders.
