Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis outlined a sweeping policy blueprint for 2026 on Sunday, presenting a "concrete roadmap" of reforms designed to position the government for the next national election.
In his weekly social media review, Mr. Mitsotakis detailed 30 projects and 10 flagship legislative initiatives targeting income support, National Health System upgrades, and a crackdown on the "deep state" in public administration.
"2026 is a milestone year," Mr. Mitsotakis wrote.
He highlighted a major digital offensive against fuel smuggling, announcing that the fuel input-output system will soon link directly to the tax authority's myDATA platform. The integration will allow real-time monitoring of over 6,000 petrol stations to dismantle criminal networks defrauding consumers.
Turning to foreign policy, the prime minister addressed friction in Transatlantic relations. He called for European unity to safeguard member state sovereignty—specifically citing Denmark and Greenland amid recent geopolitical developments—while stressing the need to maintain open channels with the United States.
On the Middle East, Mr. Mitsotakis advocated for a more active European role in Gaza, noting Athens' ongoing initiatives at the U.N. Security Council. He pointed to a rise in domestic patent filings as proof of Greece’s growing technological momentum, concluding that national strength remains the key to credibility on the world stage.
