Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held a video call with British filmmaker Christopher Nolan, congratulating him on the global success of his film "The Odyssey" and thanking him for renewing worldwide interest in ancient Greek civilization.
Mr. Mitsotakis praised Mr. Nolan for bringing Homer's epic to the big screen, saying productions like
"The Odyssey" help bridge Greece's cultural heritage with contemporary creativity and introduce classical works to modern audiences.
The prime minister also highlighted the film's strong box office performance and expressed appreciation that a significant portion of the production was filmed in Greece, underscoring the country's role as a major location for the project.
Scenes were shot at sites including Nestor's Cave in the Peloponnese, above Voidokilia beach in Messenia, where crews recreated the film's Cyclops sequence.
"The Odyssey," starring Matt Damon, opened with a $264 million global debut, according to industry figures, marking one of the year's biggest box office launches.
