Mitsotakis Pledges 'No Retreat' on Subsidy Fraud, Touts Health Upgrades

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has vowed his government will not retreat "regardless of political cost" in its crackdown on agricultural subsidy fraud, while also highlighting major health and economic achievements.

In his weekly social media post, Mr. Mitsotakis addressed the ongoing investigation into the OPEKEPE payment organization, vowing to hold all involved accountable.

He also celebrated significant upgrades to the national health system, funded with support from the Onassis Foundation.

These include a new National Transplant Center, the Onassis Children’s Hospital, and an upgraded Cardiac Surgery Center, which will expand transplant operations nationwide.

Mr. Mitsotakis also noted the recent induction of 158 permanent EMTs to the National Emergency Aid Center (EKAB).

On the economy, the prime minister pointed to record tourism of nearly 26 million visitors and foreign direct investment exceeding €8 billion in the first eight months of 2025.

Mr. Mitsotakis also announced that a Chevron-Helleniq Energy consortium is set to begin seismic surveys for natural gas south of Crete in 2026.

He praised the Economic Crime Directorate for dismantling 139 criminal organizations in its first year and concluded by paying tribute to the late songwriter Dionysis Savvopoulos.
