It is encouraging that these days the next steps are being outlined on a path that we all hope will lead to peace, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Sunday in his weekly review.

"Thus, I am given the opportunity to speak about Greece's stance on the war. A stance that is dictated by our national interest, our geopolitical position and the challenges that arise from it. We are doing what our position at the core of the European Union and our major geopolitical choices dictate. We earned this position with difficulty. Our country paid a very high price for European isolation during the years of the economic crisis. We will never again allow Greece to be marginalized. We supported Ukraine from the very beginning. We supported the defender against the attacker in an blatant invasion and violation of a country's sovereignty," the prime minister emphasized.

"We are with Europe. We are with the West. We are with international legitimacy. We cannot accept changing borders by force as a common practice," he added.
He also referred to the issue of fires, stressing that more than 18,000 firefighters are operating this year, the third highest number in proportion to residents, among European Union countries.

As for the economic situation, the Greek premier cited the data of the finance ministry for the primary surplus. More specifically, he said that the primary surplus is higher than the target set by the government by 1.2 billion euros in January-July. "Our principle is that surpluses should be returned to citizens, every available fiscal space will be utilized for the benefit of society," he underlined.
