Greece's school year kicks off Friday, and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will mark the occasion by attending the traditional blessing ceremony at the 2nd Primary School of Ano Liosia, on the outskirts of Athens.
Later Friday, at 11 a.m., Mr. Mitsotakis is set to meet UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany, the Egyptian Egyptologist who took office in November as the organization's first Arab leader. Mr. Mitsotakis will then depart that afternoon for Kastellorizo, Greece's easternmost island, near the Turkish coast.
On Saturday morning, Mr. Mitsotakis will meet with Megisti Mayor Nikolaos Asvestis before touring public works and infrastructure projects across the island.
The trip concludes Sunday, when Mr. Mitsotakis will attend ceremonies marking the 83rd anniversary of Kastellorizo's liberation, commemorating the island's release from occupation at the end of World War II.
The anniversary carries particular symbolic weight given the island's remote location and its role in Greece's territorial claims in the eastern Mediterranean.
The three-day itinerary blends a domestic education milestone with high-level diplomacy and a visit to one of Greece's most strategically sensitive border regions, underscoring the government's dual focus on public services at home and Greece's standing abroad.
