Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with the head of the CDU parliamentary group and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Tuesday in Valencia on the sidelines of the European People's Party's congress.
Mitsotakis congratulated Merz on his election victory and expressed his expectation for close cooperation with the new German government on issues of bilateral and European interest.
During the meeting, issues related to European defence and the European economy were also discussed.
Mitsotakis welcomed Merz's decision to establish a separate ministry for digital governance in Germany, adding that in the case of Greece, this portfolio has contributed drastically to the transformation of the functioning of the state.
He also met with his Finnish counterpart Petteri Orpo with whom he discussed issues of European interest, such as European collective security and European defence strategy. Afterwards, Mitsotakis met with the President of Moldova Maia Sandu. The latest European developments, as well as the prospects for bilateral cooperation, particularly in the field of energy and investment, were the focus of their meeting.
He also met with former Bulgarian PM and head of GERB Boyko Borissov.
