Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has unveiled a sweeping housing support package and a long-awaited solution for Swiss franc borrowers, while issuing a stern warning to protesting farmers that road blockades will not be tolerated during the holidays.
In his weekly review, Mr. Mitsotakis prioritized the housing crisis, announcing a €400 million ($415 million) renovation program.
The initiative covers up to 90% of costs—capped at €36,000 per home—for eligible homeowners.
He also confirmed a relief plan for 50,000 borrowers holding Swiss franc-denominated loans, which involves converting debts to euros at low fixed rates and potential write-downs.
Addressing the agricultural unrest choking national highways, Mr. Mitsotakis defended the government's record, asserting that 16 of 27 union demands have been met.
"Yes to dialogue, no to the unreasonable," Mr. Mitsotakis wrote, rejecting proposals that would violate European Union fiscal rules.
He warned that prolonged blockades are damaging tourism and local economies just as Christmas approaches.
The review also highlighted the delivery of the frigate Kimon as a "historic moment" for national defense.
With the 2026 budget now approved, the prime minister reiterated that boosting disposable income remains the administration's top goal, pointing to €2.9 billion in support measures already coming online.
