Greece's ruling conservatives are holding steady at just over 30% ahead of next year's elections, while former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has consolidated his position as leader of the opposition, pulling further clear of the flagging Socialists, according to a new poll.
The Metron Analysis survey for Mega TV projects Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis's New Democracy at 30.4% — up 1.9 percentage points from the company's last poll in June — enough to keep a single-party majority within striking distance, though still short of the numbers needed to govern alone.
Tsipras's newly formed Greek Left Alliance (ELAS) matched that gain point for point, rising to 17.1% and cementing its place as the country's leading opposition force. PASOK, the once-dominant Socialist party, limped in third at 11.4%, its centre-left ground continuing to erode.
The more dramatic shift came further down the field. Rail safety activist Maria Karystianou's Hope for Democracy — the anti-corruption party that burst onto the scene following the Tempi train disaster — fell sharply to 7.5% from 10.4%, suggesting its initial momentum may be fading. The Greek Communist Party followed at 6.2%, while four populist parties — two from the right, two from the left — are each projected to clear the 3% parliamentary threshold.
Tsipras's former vehicle, SYRIZA, is projected at just 1.4% — a near-fatal collapse for a party that once governed Greece.
Parliamentary elections are expected in the first half of 2027.
